Algimants Kontauts is a Director, Regulatory Compliance Services at Altura Governance, bringing over 15 years of international experience in audit, compliance, and governance across global financial services.
Algimants has advised leading banks and asset managers across EMEA, APAC, and the Americas, supporting firms operating in complex, multi-jurisdictional regulatory environments. He specialises in regulatory compliance and governance, serving as AML Compliance Officer and Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO), while providing independent oversight of financial crime risk and broader regulatory and reporting frameworks. He works closely with boards, fund managers, and service providers to strengthen governance structures, enhance internal controls, and ensure effective regulatory oversight.
He spent a significant part of his career with PwC across Switzerland, Germany, and the Cayman Islands, advising internationally active financial institutions and asset managers. His experience includes participation in AML/CFT inspections and a secondment to the Banking Supervision Division of the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA), giving him first-hand insight into supervisory expectations and regulatory enforcement.
In his independent director appointments, Algimants brings a governance-focused, risk-based perspective — supporting boards in fulfilling their regulatory obligations, overseeing financial crime risk, and ensuring accountability of control functions. He is recognised for embedding robust, proportionate frameworks that meet both Cayman regulatory requirements and global investor expectations.
He is a Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), and Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), and a member of the Cayman Islands Institute of Professional Accountants (CIIPA).
